Classic & Sports Cars, Simon Taylor August 2000
Reprint from "Classic and Sports car" magazine August 2000. Article by Simon Taylor who met me at the excellent Jaguar Drivers Club Hill Climb event at Prescott in June.
"Look Closely"
I had a rorty run the hill in Hayan Speddings thunderous 350 bhp modsports E-type - a very serious piece of kit.
But the biggest surprise of all was what i assumed to be a well restored SS100, but turned out at a closer examination to be one of Roger Williams' admirable Suffolk replicas.
Because every dimension including wheel diameter and width, is correct the car really does look right. Lights, seats, dials and grille are all pure SS. The big brake drums behind the wire wheels hide ventilated discs, and there are even dummy friction shockers to hide the IFS. With a 4.2 XJ6 engine and not a lot of weight to be pull around, its' pretty rapid. Add a period luggage rack, and you've got yourself a fine long distance fun car.
